How to bounce back

Tonight I had the pleasure of attending another one of our club team practices. Much of my week is spent traveling to practices and training sessions to assess our player pool. This will help us evaluate our program better and move players around to help better their skills.

Tonight's practice was a great reminder of how coaches need to react after a tough weekend of games. It goes without saying that most of our players and coaches want to win games. It stings a bit when there is a loss. However, what are our coaches doing with the loss and how do we react as a team?

Tonight's observation was key. Reinforce the goals of the team - refocus the team - and don't let them get ahead of themselves. Taking one game at a time, along with positive encouragement from our coaching staff is what is needed. We must learn from every opportunity, and that includes our coaches, and that is what was shown this evening at the training session. Sometimes it is ok as coaches to take a much needed 20 minutes at practice and just talk, discuss the opportunities and move forward as a team!
